CHARITY APPEAL.

COMMERCIAL TRAVELLERS’ EFFORT. TO BE LAUNCHED NEXT MONTH. In common with the associations in tho larger centres of New Zealand, the Palmerston North branch of the Commercial Travellers’ Association purposes next month undertaking a campaign to raise money with a view to creating a fund for charitable purposes. In the past the local association has proved untiring in its efforts to assist the needy, and has made several appeals with a large measure of success. However, it is now intended to centre activities in one huge annual appeal, and a campaign to secure of sum of £SOO will be launched late in November. A special committee has been set up to develop the scheme, but it is understood that the activities of tho day will be entered upon at an early hour, when a house to house canvas will bo undertaken, disposing of buns. At a later hour balloons will be disposed of, while concert and orchestral parties will parade the town on lorries, the day being brought to a closo with a concert in the evening. Some little time ago the Auckland Association undertook a campaign when tho appreciable sum of approximately £SOOO was obtained, and whilo the local members are not so ambitious it is hoped that the amount aimed at will be secured, and thus form the basis of a fund for distribution to the poor and needy in this community. MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. At a general meeting of the local association called for the purpose of filling certain/vacancies on the various committees, the president, Mr V. Rabone, presided over an attendance of 40 members. Messrs J. Danks and A. Kennedy were appointed to fill two. vacancies on the general committee; Mr P. Paterson to the amusement committee and Mr H. Trigger to fill a vacancy on the sports committee.
