SHIP SCUTTLED.
DECISION OF ENGLISH JUDGE. LONDON. July 13. A month was occupied in hearing a case before the King's Bench, wherein the Banco Barcelona claimed £15,505 fiom the Union Marine Insurance Company in respect to a cargo of. cloth valued at £373,000, which sunk with the steamer Cruz in 1920. Plaintills asserted that the captain went clown with the ship, but the defence called divers to support a charge that the ship was scuttled. It was also asserted that the captain was alive and living in retirement. Mr Justice Greer found that the ship had been scuttled with the connivance of the jwneft and gave a verdict for defendants, with costs. It is understood the litigation will cost £40,000. —A. and N.Z. cable.
