AN ANCIENT BRIDGE
WORK OF MEN OF ICE AGE. FOUND IN SHAFT OF AIINE. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) BERLIN, July 12. A perfectly preserved oaken footbridge forty yards long, consisting of planed planks fastened with oaken clamps, which ice age men constructed across a marshy river bed, has been unearthed in a mine shaft at Dortmund. Archaeologists are of opinion that it is 50,000 years old. It is the most important pre-liistoric discovery for years and proves the intelligence and skill of the ice men, whose only implements were mammoths’ teeth. — A. and N.Z. cable.
