SHANNON BRIDGE.
INSPECTION BY MR LINKLATER. (From Our Shannon Correspondent.) The opportunity was taken at Moutoa yesterday to bring before the member of Parliament for the district, Mr J. Linklater, -the present state of affairs in connection with the destruction of the bridge across t!ie Manawalu river on the Foxton-Shaii-non road.
The party, who left Shannon to attend the Moutoa war memorial service, motored to tho present punt site, but found that the approach to the punt bad been silted up to such an extent that it was quite impossible for a vehicle of any sort to get near the punt. A gang of men was working on each side- of the river clearing the cutting, and it wus apparent that it would be some time before this work would he completed. The party was informed that the punt had 1-ecn usable for only live days in the last six weeks. They had to leave their car and take an ordinary rowing boat to cross the river.
After the Moutoa ceremony Mr Linklater accompanied the Shannon party back to the bridge, where be inspected the source of the trouble, and promised to do all in his power to have the position righted.
