SALE OF INDULGENCES
QUESTION OF HISTORY.
DECISION TO BE ANNOUNCED LATER.
Messrs F. J. Nathan, J. P. Innes and H. L. Young, tho committee appointed in connection with the dehate between Mr A. E. Mander and Father Lynch on the subject, “That Pope Leo N. did authorise or sanction the sale of indulgences/’ last night heard the evidence in support and in rebuttal.
The hearing was in camera in the Mayor’s room at the Municipal offices. With Mr Mander was Mr J. H. Stevens, and with Father Lynch was Mr A. M. Ongley. According to a statement made to a reporter this morning by a member of the committee, it was made an express condition of the debate that none of the lengthy evidence adduced should be published until the decision is announced. It will probably be several days before the committee decides which of the two parties is to pay £IOO to the. local hospital.
