OLD EMPLOYEE’S LAPSE.
GUILTY OK THEFT. A snan nameil Gruliani Looker, who had bci'n ail employe of the firm of Collinson and Cunninghame, Ltd., for seven years, appeared before Mr J. L. .Stout, S.M., at ilie Magistrate's Court this morning charged with the theft of a rug and piece of linoleum of the value of £2 10.-, the property of his former employer-. Detective Russell, in outlining the ease for the police, stated that the accused 'had been in the employ of Messrs Collinson and Cunninghame as an upholsterer for a period of seven years, hut 1 had been dismissed owing to hi- having given way to drink, fie had been accustomed to go round to hi- old linn in search of temporary employment and on doing so on Monday last had purloined the articles mentioned ill the charge. Accused had been questioned by Mr Collin-on and had denied the taking of the articles, but had later admitted the theft. He had been under the influence of liquor at the time. Accused, -who pleaded guilty, slated that he had been under the influence of liquor at the time and had not known what lie was doing, otherwise he would never have done it. "I cannot realise yet that. I have done it, and I ask that a prohibition order he taken out against me,” added the accused. ||c win convicted and ortltrctl to conic up for sentence within 12 months d culled upon, and a prohibition order was made against him. An order was also made for the return of the goods to their rightful owners. An application for the suppression of accused's name was relu-ed, the Magistrate remarking that it would have to be part of bis punishment.
