NEW TOWN CLERK

TAKAPUNA APPOINTMENT. MR H. L. BOWDEN SELECTED, AUCKLAND, June 17. Tho appointment of a town clerk in succession to Mr S. Brittain Bull, who vacates the office next Saturday, was made by the Takapuna Borough Council lust evening. The three applicants, two of whom are at present town clerks, and the third an assistant town clerk, who had been chosen for tho final selection out of the total of 43, attended a special meeting of the Borough Council, over which the Mayor, Mr J. D. Morison, presided. They answered a number of questions as to their experience and qualifications, and a ballot was then taken, tho result being that Mr H. L. Bowden, assistant town clerk of Palmerston North, received the appointment, Mr Bowden was in tho service of tho Bank of New Zealand before he went to the war, for which he enlisted in the Tenth Reinforcement. While at tho fnont he was twice wounded. On his return in 1918, he received an appointment to the staff of the Palmerston North Borough Council, und four years ago he was appointed assistant town clork. That position ho still holds, with full charge of the accounts, including those of the engineering departments, of tho largest inland borough in New Zealand. Mr Bowden will bo able to tako up his new duties at Takapuna in about a month. Mr H. B. Fraser, assistant town clerk, was appointed to act as town clerk in the meantime.
