ADVANTAGE OVER EUROPE

(By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received May 21, 8.50 a.m. LONDON, May 20.

Dean Inge, on being interviewed on his return from his lecturing tour in America, said: “The United States is really invulnerable ; she can devote the whole of her enormous wealth to im'provi lg herself, whereas Europeans spend of their income upon burglary insurance, in other words, upon armaments. As regards wealth Britain is nowhere compared with America. Their prosperity is stupendous but spiritually dangerous. N evertheless, I heard nothing obout empty churches. The interest in religion is not very strong, but it is growing. T heard no slang; educated Americans speak like ourselves. After a period of prohibition, 1 am glad to get back to my cellar. 1 was only offered and only had water while in America.” Mr; Inge added that no one who is poor can live in America. Dean and Mrs Inge travelled second class. —A. and N.Z. cable.
