ALL SAINTS’ HOME

ANNUAL REPORT.

A SUCCESSFUL YEAR.

Tho report to be presented at the annual meeting of the All Saints’ Children's Honie f in commenting on tho successful year just concluded, attributed the happy outcomo to the large-hearted support accorded the homo by itn many supporters. The homes, continues the report, appear to have won tho hearts of the town and district; and as far as the support for the ordinary revenue of them is concerned, wo have had no anxiety. They are quite full. 36 in Palmerston North, 22 in Foxton, and the Government inspectors requested us not to take any above this number. Still there are many pitiful appeals which the committee are compelled to decline through lack of accommodation.

The great work of the year has been en largeinent of the Foxton Beach llorne. This was wholly inadequate for the accommodation of the number placed there, arid there was no proper water supply, and the drainage also was in a dangerous condition. All this has been attended to, large and spacious dormitories, verandahs, a special pump for water, largo tanks, a septic tank and sanitary arrangements. We were compelled to take the whole matter in hand, and we acted in the faith of our supporters. Over £6OO was obtained in gifts by Mr Holben, but we have a debt of £9OO left upon us. This we would ask our friends to remember, and to help us to extinguish as soon as possible. Another important matter was the drawing up of a new constitution. Tho old one was written in tho infancy of tho home, and was quite inadequate in carrying on the homes ill their present condition. For this work we have to thank Mr Martyn Abraham. In the course of the year, Mrs Leigh resigned the post of matron of the All Saints’ Home. Wo are very grateful to her for the work which she so lovingly gave to the children. Mrs Wagstaff has been appointed to take her place and is capably filling that post, and is ably seconded by Miss Richardson. Mrs Murdoch, the matron at Foxton, has worked untiringly through the vicissitudes of that branch of tile homo.

During the epidemic of diphtheria in the town a large number of our children were condemned as carriers, although none of them suffered from the disease. This caused great dislocation in-our work—we had to separate the carriers from the noncarriers and send them to the Foxion Beach Home. What wo should have done without our second homo it is difficult to say. We arc deeply grateful that nono of our children contracted the infantile paralysis. We wish to take this opportunity of conveying our gratitude to Dr Bott for his very careful attention to tho health of our children; to Mr Williams and Mr Small for attention to their teeth; to Mr Penny (auditor); to Mr Martyn Abraham (lion ’legal adviser); to Miss Owtrain for the hard-earned money from seedlings; to Messrs Ashworth, Thwaites, tho Kairanga Meat Company and Manawatu Moat Company for meat; to Mr Henderson for milk; to Mr Dustin, Mrs Freeman, Air Steele, Whitehead and Ellis, Kosy Lounge, Piccadilly tea room for cukes, etc.; to Mr and Mrs Hanley for the Christmas tree and tbu, and to the numerous friends of the home who so liberally provided the children with presents at Christmas; to.Mr Penman for gratuitous hair-cutting; to Mr Wag-horn for paltering the dining room and another room; to Mr Pringle for always being ready to motor the children to Foxton; to Mr Madge for gratuitous rides to Foxton; to Mr Espiner, our box secretary. We are greatly indebted to the commercial travellers for their splendid efforts in raising money for the Foxton Home and the ordinary revenue, and their enthusiastic interest in our Homes. We are also indebted to tho local newspapers for kindly publishing lists of donations, to “Active Service” for making our needs known far and wide, to the Diocesan Social Service Fund and the T. G. McCarthy Trust for grants, to the ladies of tho Sewing Guild who go twice a weA to help in the repairing of the children's clothes, to Air lluggins for willing advice. For the Foxton Beach Home we wish to record our gratitude to Air Holben for all he has done, and to Air Chrietofferson, Air and Mrs Hartley. The board that lias served during the past year has consisted of Messrs H. Akers, Martyn Abraham, H. G. Bag-null, J. Carter, G. 11. Espiner, Holben Lewis, S. Lancaster, Moiirad, Owtram, D. Pringle, Waghorn, Rev. W. 11. Walton, A. Skerntan (secretary). _ . The ladies’ committee consists of Alesdames L. Abraham (secretary), H. Akere, Bagnall, Campbell, Claphani, Fancourt, Mansford, Phillips, P. Robinson, Walton and Aliss Paslev. » . .. In conclusion we wish to. thank our secretaries, Air A. Skermafi. and Mrs L. Abraham, and Mr G. H. Bagnall for tho great work he has taken over from the secretary, in the charge of the records and collecting payments. We heartily thank all those people who have helped so freely with their services br donations, and express the prayer that God, who lias blessed our work hitherto, will continue His fullest blessing on the work in the coming year.
