APPOINTING CHAIRMEN.

CITY COUNCIL DISCUSSION'

Pet Press Association. AUCKLAND, May 20. Strong exception was _ taken by several members of the City Council to the action of the Mayor. Mr Dai Won, in appointing the chairman o.'i the various committees. Mr Bloodworth said that the appointment of Mr Robertson as chairman of the tramways, waterworks ami electricity committee, though Mr Robertson had no previous experience on this committee, had been made over his head. He took this as an insult as he had served for two terms on the committee and was entitled t > have been consulted. He refused to serve on the committee and wot hi seriously consider whether he would remain a member of the council. Mr Robertson said he was quite prepared to serve &s an ordinary member of the committee.

The Mayor said that he had followed the previous chairman and thought Mr Robertson the best man, but he welcomed the discussion. After a lengthy discussion a motion was carried that the committees should appoint ts chairman,
