WOMEN’S NOTES.

Mrs Masefield, wife of Captain Masefield, of Marlborough, the well-known rifle shot, died in Christchurch on Saturday. Deceased was a daughter of tho late Archdeacon Grace. Tho Oddfellows’ weekly dance was again well attended on Monday evening, when a thoroughly enjoyable evening was spent by all. The floor was in excellent condition for dancing and the music, which was supplied by an orchestra, was perfect. Messrs Caterick and Dilks acted as M.’sC.

At Knox Church, Masterton, last week. Miss Annie Atkinson, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs James Atkinson, of “Hillsborough,” Pownall street, Masterton, was married to Mr P. Leonard Lancaster, of the Auckland University staff, eldest son of Mr T. Lancaster, of Palmerston North. Mr and Mrs Lancaster’s future homo will be at Mt. Eden, Auckland. Mrs Haldane, tho mother of Viscount Haldane, celebrated her 100th birthday last month. At her home at Cloan, Auchterader, Perthshire, she received by wireless a special message of congratulation from a Broadcasting company. There was a family gathering at Cloan for the birthday of this wonderful lady, whose mind, at the age of 100, is still so alert that an hour in her company stimulates and delights her visitors. The study of languages has always been a favourite hobby of Mrs Haldane, and she is the mistress of many tongues, European and Oriental. LADIES’ GOLF.
