THE DAVIS CUP. BRITAIN BEATS POLAND. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) WARSAW, April 17. In the Davis Cup, first round, Lowe defeated Forester, 6—o, 6—o, 6—o. Wheatley, beat Szwede, 6—2, 6—o, 6—o, 6 —o. Britain thus won the round, 7 —6 matches to nil.

WIN FOR HOLLAND. AMSTERDAM, May 17. In the Davis Cup, first round, Holland defeated Czeclio Slovakia 3—2. This qualifies Holland to meet the winner of the Sweden v. Switzerland tie in the second round. —A. and N.Z. cable.
NEW ZEALAND WITHDRAWS
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 18.
The New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association has decided that owing to the very heavy expenditure involved with the probability of a small return. New Zealand cannot afford to send a team to Canada to contest the Davis Cup this year. New Zealand's nomination, therefore, will be cancelled.
POLO IN AUSTRALIA
SYDNEY, May 18.
The polo ground has imprpved, but is still heavy. Victoria defeated the New South Wales “white" team by 10 to 3, und South Australia defeated Queensland by eight to five.. New Zealund whoso defeat on Saturday eliminated it from tlio Australian Cup contest, will meet, the New South Wales “white” team to-morrow in the beaten teams’ contest.—Press Association.
