THE POLAR FLIGHT.

WAITING FOR MILDER WEATHER

SPITZBERGEN, May 16. The weather last week mado a Polar flight impossible, and the ice conditions are still bad. During the waiting period, the motors were started daily to keep them in perfect running condition. The difficulties of starting in a low temperature have been over, come. Experiments to find the right admixture fo cooling water succeeded in eliminating the risk of the water freezing, aud the difficulty of the oil becoming thick and heavy has also ben overcome. Captain Amundsen, however, persists in waiting for milder weather for starting as he thinks it will not be wise to risk the motors freezing, although the risk is reduced to a minimum. Everything else in connection with tho expedition is ready.— A. and N.Z. cable.
