Seventy - five thousand people witnessed the race. The tavourites were outclassed. —A. and N.Z. cable. R. J. Mason told a Christchurch writer that he bus no intention of retiring from training. The fact that Uloammg iias been blistered is evidence that Mason has hopes of the champion standing another preparation. Gloaming’s joints filled after bis racing on hard trades at the recent Hawice s Bay meeting, so Mason has eased him in bis work. He has blistered the enlarged joint and Gloaming will probably go into retirement for a- few months. G. Young arrived at Wellington from Christchurcn last week, and went on to Sydney by tho Maunganui. It is his intention to reside permanently in Australia. T. Lloyd rode Sunart to the tracks at Woodvilie during last week, so it would appear that the New Zealand Cup winner has made a good recovery from Ins breakdown at. Hawera in February (says an exchange). Lloyd has not yet made a start on Mireusonta, who is still running out in the paddock. Ho is reported as looking very fresh and well.
