ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.
ELDERLY MAN CHARGED. Wyatt Matthew Clark, who was found on May 10 in a state of extreme sxh&ustion on a bank of the Monawatu river not far from the water’s edge, and some 500 yards from the Fitzherbert bridge, ap]wared before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., at the .Magistrate’s Court this morning on a charge ol having attempted to commit suicide. Accused, who was represented by Mr Hutchison, pleaded guilty. Counsel stated that his client was a welleducated man and was quite able to earn his living. He had come to Palmerston North and had lost money at the races, with the result that he had become despondent. He had friends at Marton and they were willing to look after him. In fact, they were in Palmerston North waiting to take him away. Senior-Sergeant O’Grady stated that, bad the man remained there another 24 hours, he would have died. There was an injury to his wrist, caused by a razor. He had been in the hospital since last Sunday week. “You must recognise that you have committed a very foolish act,” said the Magistrate to accused, who was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon to do -o within six months. He was also ordered to pay the hos pit til expenses.
