GATHERING AT HIWINUI.
PRESENTATION TO MR AND MRS FREW.
The esteem in which Mr and Mrs \V. JFrew and family are held by the residents of Hiwinui was evidenced at a farewell gathering at the Hiwinui school this week when Mr Greenhow, on behalf Of tho settlers, presented the departing guests with a beautiful and ussful silver tea set as something to remind them ol verv pleasant days spent in the district ol Hiwinui. Reference by Mr Greenhow was made of the willing efforts o' Mr and Mrs Frew and family in all matters tending for the prosperity of the settlement and in social activities, and to Vlr Frew s activities in connection with the school committee of which lie was a member lor several years, its chairman for two years, and secretary for twelve montlis and to his effective work as chairman of the Patriotio Society during the year he held office. Mr and Mrs Frew, the latter ol whom had resided in the district for oo years, have come to live in .Palmerston North. During the evening he school prizes were presented by Mi Osborne. Prior to the commencement of tho function two minutes’ silence were observed m memory of the late Mr Massey.
