RAILWAY DEVIATION.

PLANS AND SURVEYS COMPLETED. DEPARTMENT MAKING READY FOR EARTHWORK. In conversation with a '“Standard” reporter this morning, Mr J. A. Nash, ALP., mentioned that he had recently been informed by the Minister for Public Works (Hon J. G. Coates) that, in the case of such matters as the railway deviation at Palmerston North, the work of the Railway Department was at a certain stage handed over to the Public Works Department for execution.

The surveys and plans of the lay-out were now in the "hands of the latter department, the Minister had stated, and were receiving attention. As soon as these were ready to be acted upon the earthwork would be commenced.
