MISSIONARY DAY. >, The Baptist Church yesterday observed «. missionary and thanksgiving day. In tise forenoon Rev. C, W. Duncumti gave an address reviewing the world’s religious condition and in the afternoon there was i, special service of thanksgiving for Ute preservation of the children ot the Sundg.y School and the resumption of the school after the recent epidemic. Parents, 'teachers and soholars largely attended. Special prayers were offered oy„ representative of the parents, teachers and scholars. Rev, C. W. Dunouwb, .prior to giving a brief address suited tc> the occasion, introduced Mr W. B. Lambert as the new. superintendent of the Sunday school. On the roll'call, it was found ttiat all scholars were accounted for and five new scholars were welcomed. Last night the pulpit was occupied by Rev. T. It. Edwards, who served for many yes.rs on the training staff of Serampore Baptist College in India. He graphically told the story of India’s crying need of Christianity and tho success which has followed missionary enterprise. Mr Edwards told of the pitiable plight of a people who worshipped gods wholly impotent to do a single thing to help those who worshipped them. Child marriage and the child widow, denied the right to re-marry and pitiiully abused, the speaker described as one of India’s saddest features. There was a bright side, however, in the striking evidence of the worth of missionary enterprise. *
