AUSTRALIA’S POPULATION.
APPROACHING six millions. MELBOURNE, March 16. Australia’s population is approaching the six million mark. Figures issued by the Commonwealth Statistician (Mr Wickens] on Saturday show that for tho year ended December 51, 1924, there was on increase in population of 123,696, bringing tho total to 5,873,503. Tho figures reveal a steady advance when a comparison is made with previous years. In 1923 the increase was 116,526; in 1922, 124,203, and in 1921, 97,776. Victoria’s share is 1,657,095, New South Wales, 2,247,672; Queensland, 341,772; South Australia, 538,506; West Australia, 364,124; Tasmania, 217,839; Northern Territory, 3597, and Federal Territory, 2998.
