A free rido in a taxi from Christchurch to Dunedin and another to Middlemarch has landed an enterprising young man with a peculiar bruin kiuk in the hands of tlie police (states the Otago Daily Time*). It is alleged that, landing at Lyttelton from tlio ferry steamer, he told a taxi driver that ho watit’ed to go to Dunedin to see his dying father and that .the fare agreed on. £3O, would be forthcoming on arrival." The journey was commenced without anv further delay, and on reaching Manse street after an uneventful run the “faro” eluded the taxi driver. The young man iater entered into an arrangement with a Dunedin taxi driver to drive him to Middlemarch for £6. On arrival there the owner of taxi No. 2 was left lamenting.
