CLOSER SETTLEMENT.

NEED FOR CAUTION, Per Press Association. GISBORNE, March 30. Addressing a deputation at Tologa Bay, the Minister of Lands (Hon. A. D. MacLeod) urged caution regarding closer settlement. He stated that he el icl not believe that the present was a good time to take land under the Act for closer settlement. If an owner was prepared to come forward and place a fair value on his land it might bo possible to acquire it, but his experience in the past had been that where an owner had acquired land under the Act he had paid too much for it. The present was a dangerous time to purchase land.
