GOLD STANDARD.
A DIFFICULT PROBLEM,
LONDON, March 26. In the House of Commons, in replying to questions, Mr Winston Churchill said that lie was anxious to announce his decision on the question of the gold standard at the earliest date, but it was impossible to deal with the matter before tho reces3. On being asked whether the uncertainty of the Government’s intentions acted as a deterrent to trade, Mr Churchill said he had received some communications from various trade organisations pointing out the evils of prolonged uncertainty. The Government was endeavouring to discharge a difficult duty with regard solely to the general interest and was exercising the utmost vigilance in studying the situation.— A. and N.Z. cable
