STRUGGLE ON A SHIP.
STOWAWAY IN A FIT. RESISTANCE TO ARREST. SYDNEY, Jan. 17. A struggle between a policeman and would-be stowaway caused much excitement on the Newcastle wharf tnisweek. A New Zealander, Norman McDonald, a native of Christchurch, tried to stow away on board the steamer Ivurow, bound for New Zealand. Constable McLeod saw McDonald climb a rope at the ship's side. He iniT mediately boarded the Kurow and attempted to arrest McDonald, who violently resisted. After a despei'ate struggle McLeod appealed for assistance, and David Hughes, a' boatman, joined in. Several firemen from the ehip then set upon Hughes, who received a cut in the back of the head. Other police arrived, but McDonald by this time had fallen into a fit, and was taken to the hospital by the ambulance.
