RED TRIANGLE DAY.

A thoroughly convincing answer is available to the man or woman who is maybe wondering why the Y.M.C.A. is deserving of a universal and generous response to its Red Triangle Day appeal. After 70 years of experience in almost every country in the world in 9000 odd branches, the indisputable fact has emerged that there is not one Y.M.C.A. in existence that can do' without the support of the community that it serves. Here, in Palwerston North, the average cost of running trie work for one year works out at 59s per member, and this compares more than favourably with mott associations. Adequate fees are charged the senior men, who are able to pay, but there are 114 boys under 18 in the membership to whom the,cost is an average of lis 8d each. Again the local association has made a distinct success of the classes for small boys and girls under 12 years and down to 6. Further, notwithstanding the low fees charged luch a large proportion of the members, the latter by the fees and their enthusiasm, in money-raising events and the assistance of supporters, have already raised approximately £IOOO of the £llsO needed to maintain the association for a year. ' To maintain the many and varied activities there is a considerable and ever growing number of men and women who do a vast amount of personal service. The appeal gives an opportunity to the numerous citizens, who are unable to serve in this personal way and ure only too willing to place a coin in a box.
