ACCIDENT TO STEAMER.
FINDING BY THE COURT. Per Press Association. , WELLINGTON, Feb. 7. The finding regarding the accident to the Pakeha on 3rd June at the Bluff was delivered to-day. The court finds that it is impossible to say the exact causes which contributed to the steamer touching, but the low state of the tide, tho position of the vessel in the channel, its draught and the list of tho ship, and probably the slight range, were factors. The board s denial ot the possibility of suoh an accident oasts upon it the onus of proving that it was impossible. In the circumstances, the court is unable to accept as conclusive the statement that no obstruction existed in the channel near the Mararoa rock. The master and officers exercised all reasonable care and the pilot was acting to the best of his knowledge and ability. • ) An order was made that the assessors and witnesses' expenses be- borne equally by the Marine Department and the Blur] Harbour Board.
