CASES OF BURGLARY
*. .' TWO INSIDE A DAY. i A residence in Union street, occupied by Mr and Mrs W. H. Ashinore and family, was burglariously entered on Thursday morning and a sum of money stolen therefrom. Mr and Mrs Ashmore left Palmerston JSorth at about six o'clock, and two hours later their two boys, after seeing that all windows and doors were locked., left the house. One of the boys found it necessary later in tho .morning to return for some money, but on arrival found that it had disappeared. An investigation revealed that one of the windows facing the street had been forced open. The other brother later found that money and valuables of his had also been taken. Mr and Mrs Ashmore have not yet returned, and it will not be known until they do so whether anything else has been stolen. Another burglary has also been reported to the police, in this instance Mr W. Dalton, bootmaker, of Fitzherbert street, being the victim. On arriving- at his shop on Thursday morning he discovered that one of the two small windows facing the street had been broken, and that three or four pairs of boots had been removed from the window, together with several smaller articles. Blood stains were found in the' vicinity. It has been stated that quite, possibly the window might have been broken by accident, and that, some person or persons passing, had seen the opening and had extracted the articles. It is rather a peculiar coincidence that amongst the footwear taken from Mr Dalton's establishment was a pair of shoes belonging to one of MrAshmore's sons.
