TOKOMARU NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

If the number of motor cars purchased is an indication of prosperity in the district, then we are commencing the New Year very auspiciously. Miss Doreen Clapham is visiting friends here.

At St. Aidan's Church on Sunday the christening took place of Terence William Lonsdale Kelly, the little son of Mr and Mrs W. R. Kelly, Rev. Farnell was the officiating minister. A party of picnickers journeyed up Horseshoe Bend yesterday, taking .advantage of tho beautiful day. This is an ideal spot, and always a popular one, for, added to the beauties of nature lavishly displayed, safe bathing can be indulged in. Good potato crops are reported by local gardeners, but tomato plants are already showing signs of blight. Maßtor George Claridge recently underwent an operation for appendicitis, and is making satisfactory progress. Mr Miller is slowly recovering from a painful operation on the neck. On Friday evening an entertainment in the form of cards and dancing is to be hold in the local hall, the funds accruing therefrom to be devoted to the school picnic fund. At a former meeting it waa decided to have a children's 1 ball, but as this has been found to be impracticable the aforementioned form of entertainment has been substituted.

Very little hag been done so far towards supplying local residents with facilities' for electric purposes, though the work is going steadily ahead in other districts.
