Mr T. 0. Bishop, ■ secretary of the Coalmine Owners’ Association, has returned to Wellington after spending three weeks on the West Coast in connection with matters affecting mining interests. He reports that tlie conferences between representatives of the owners and the unions were carried through without any friction, and an agreement arrived at which is being submitted to the various unions. To-morrow the District Council is to consider tlie position, und the prospects of a complete settlement ure considered very favourable.
