ENLARGEMENT DECIDED UPON. PLANS ALREADY MADE. [By Electric Telegraph,—Copyright.] Received December 10, 9.35 a.m. LONDON, Dec. 9. In the course of his Speech to Parliament the King stated that the Government proposed to proceed with the plans already made for enlarging the naval base at Singapore. In the House of Commons Mr Baldwin stated thiitoAlic Government had not yet decided on tlie length of time over which the Singapore works would he spread. It was communicating with the Dominions with regard to the q uestion of contributions.—A. and N.Z. cable. OBJECTION TO EXPENDITURE. "LONDON, Dec. 9. The Daily Telegraph, in commenting on the Govern mom* decision to proceed' with the Singapore base, says: “Doubtless tlie question of finance as between the Mother Country and the Dominions will bo reconsidered. Britain is not in the position of the rich uncle in the fairy story. Britain is really very poor and is also overtaxed. Expenditure •on Singapore, however necessary on the broadest Imperial grounds, is unwelcome.”—A. and N.Z. cable.
