RESUMPTION OF TRADE.

RELATIONS WITH GERMANY.

APPROACHING PRE-WAR FOOTING

• AUCKLAND; Dec. 9. Opinions obtained from commercial men in Auckland to-day appear to indicate that the resumption of commercial relations between Britain and Germany on something approaching a prewar footing was not unexpected. “It is well known,” said one man, “that German goods come in here, and the other day my attention was drawn to tho fact that our wool is going to Germany. My attention was drawn to it by a German, who remarked that the rise in the price of New Zealand wool last year was due to a good deal of our wool* going to Germany. 1 made inquiries, and found this to be correct. So it cuts both ways; we get German goods, they get New Zealand wool.” In reply to an inquiry, Mr H. W. Hudson, a student of international trade relations, remarked that this trade treaty between Great Britain and Germany was inevitable, and, of course, it was bound to come to pass that New Zealand would 'again trade regularly with Germany, much as we disliked the idea at present. As a matter of fact, there was a considerable salo of German goods in the Dominion at present, and he personally knew of one man in New Zealand who had set himself out to introduce German goods. “For a long time past German trade circulars have been regularly coming to my office, and, despite the fact that I have sent them back stamped with a statr.u I have, ‘Remember Captain Fryatt, the Lusitania, and Nurse Cavell,’ they keep on coming. Of course, this attitifdi-! in (business was bound to come tot ah end, and it was inevitable that other countries would again trade with Germany. It is yet too, early to discuss what are likely to be *the terms on New Zealand will enter into a but we are certain to follow the lead of the Old Country; otherwise 4 there might be complications.” \
