WEST END SCHOOL
MONTHLY COMMITTEE MEETING. The monthly meeting of tho West End School-. Committee was held last evening, when there were present: Alossrs C. H. Whitehead (in the chair), A. E. Blackbourn, A. Penkoth, 11. Mouldey and G. Lyno (secretary). CORRESPONDENCE. From Air J. A. Nash, M.P., stating that he would bo glad to go into the matter of additional land for the school, and would report on his inquiries as early as ■possible.—Received. From the secretary of the School Sports Association extending an invitation- to the members of the committee to attend the annual sports at the Showgrounds on December 10. Tho writer also asked the committee to grant tho children a whole holiday.—Request acceded to. From the Wanganui Education Board forwarding, a subsidy of £6 5s 9d for pictures for the school. HEADMASTER’S REPORT. The headmaster (Air A. W. Thompson) reported that the present roll number was 405, the average attendance being 385. Members of the staff had been in camp. At the teachers’ examinations, Messrs Holder,’ Barling and Orgias were successful in gaining their: partial D certificates. The resignation of Miss E. L. Pigott had been accepted. On’ November 12, 13 and 14 the school was visited by Inspectors Blackie and Cowles, of Wellington. Tho proficiency examination was held at tho same time, and the results were most satisfactory. The ‘ annual examination of all classes had been completed. The sum of £1 18s had been collected and forwarded to the Institute for the Blind, Auckland. The basketball team, .under Aliss AI. Jamieson, had' won the basketball banner for the year, while the rounders team, under Aliss G. E. Jamieson, again won the rounders banner. The New Zealand Swimming Association had sent 24 certificates that had been gained by' the pupils during the past season. Messrs Skinner . (attendance officer) and J. B. Hogg (agricultural instructor) visited the school during the month. —Adopted. GENERAL. It was decided that the annual school concert be held on December 11 and 12. Arrangements are being made to hold the annual picnic on the first Friday in I< ebrunrv.
