Lord and Lady Jellicoe and party aro the. guests of the State Governor of New South Wales, not having proceeded to Melbourne as previously reported. At . yesterday's meeting of tho District Nursing Guild, the chairman (Mr J. A. McLeavey) extended a hearty welconio to Mrs T. Hewitt who recently returned from a trip to England. Mr and Mrs Andrew Hamilton, of Kolburn, Wellington, are on a visit to Pulmerston North. Mr Hamilton is a member ol the Wellington Bowling Club, while Mrs Hamilton occupies a prominent position in tho ranks of the croquet players of the ' Empire City. * QUEEN ALEXANDRA. Yesterday the Queen Mother attended Sandringham church, in the morning and later drove out in an open motor tar, enjoying tho sunshine, which she smilingly attributed to nature 3 tinfailing kindness to herself as she loved sunshine. The King and me Duke of Devonshire lunched with her at Sandringham House and Queen Mary, (he Prince of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of York, and others, visited her in the evening. , , , The birthday will he celebrated by a Royal luncheon to-day. Telegrams and presents of flowers are pouring in. A. anu N.Z. cable. LADIES’ ATHLETIC CLUB. The annual meeting of the Palmerston North Ladies’ Amateur Athletic Club wa? held last evening, when Mrs T. Stubbs presided over a fair attendance of members. The annual report, as published in the “Standard,” was read and adopted, as was 1 also the balance-sheet. ' In formally moving their adoption, Mrs Stubbs stated that it was a matter for regret that, during the past year, some members of the club had not taken a keen interest in its activities, but this State of affairs, she hoped, would be remedied this season. . , The election of officers for the ensuing vear resulted as follows: —Patron, Mrs I, j. "Nathan; president, Mrs H. Palmer; vice-presidents, Mesdaines Stubbs and Day acid Messrs W. H. Wilson and S. Wells; secretary and treasurer, Miss E. Gulliver; committee, Misses McAllister, Walker, .Morgan and Collins. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr W. H. Wilson for the offer of a rropliv to the value of £1 Is annually. It was decided that it be a recommendation to the incoming committee that it be used as a points prize for events at even- 1 ing meetings. Air S. Wells was also ae* : corded a vote of thanks for the donation of the sum of 10s 6d. It was decided that the subscriptions be the same as those last year. A vote of thanks was accorded several members of the Alanawatu Amateur Athletic' and Cycling Club who attended the meeting by invitation. NURSING GUILD. 3. The monthly meeting of the District Nursing Guild was held yesterday, Mr J. A. McLeavey presiding. Others present Were Misses Cunnighame and Nairn, Mesdarnes L. A. Abraham, Coles, Gill, Spoon l er Hewitt and Aitehison (secretary) The ’nurse reported that 114 visits to patients had been made and seven pati- . ents discharged. Donations of clothing had been received from Mesdames C. J. Monro,tBoruek and O’Connor. —Adopted. ; It. was decided that ihe house-to-house collection in aid of the guild funds be made bn December 16th. Alesdames Aitchi-' son, Gill, Abraham, Spooner and Mr AleLeavey were appointed to make further arrangements. Nurse Watson, who is acting nurse, ■ was -present at the meeting and was formally welcomed by the chairman. Anyone requiring her services is asked to ring ’phone 6667. Accounts amounting to £lB 2s were passed for payment. •GOLDEN WEDDING. The golden wedding was celebrated at Dannevirke last week of Air and Airs Robert Stevens, both of whom are well known and much respected in 1 almcrslon North. Between' 40 and 60 personal friends gathered to offer the tribute of friendship, while numerous telegraphic greetings were received. The parents of the bride and bridegroom, arrived in Wellington on Christmas Day, 1842, and after experiencing the alarming earthquakes of those days, moved to the Rangitikei, where their reJatives and connections formed the majority among the settlers of that extensive district.
