FARMER FROM NEW ZEALAND.
“MERRY” WITH £l5O. George Baldwin, a New Zealand farmer who arrived in Sydney from England on the Orsova the other day, told the magistrate at the Central Court the following morning that he had made the acquaintance of Albert Evans, aged 34, labourer. Evans was before the court on a charge of attempted stealing. “We had a few drinks, and brought a bottle of rum, which we took into one of your esplanades,” said Baldwin. “We got a hit—you know — merry. I became hazy by 2 p.m., and only remeinlier a hand being put into the' pocket where 1 had a wallet. 1 do not even know whose hand it was.” Constable Brown said that he saw Evans put his hand in Baldwin’s pocket, and pull out a wallet. Baldwin snatched it hack. When searched Baldwin had £2O in tho wallet and £l3O in a belt at his waist.
The further hearing was adjourned
