WOMEN’S NOTES

Miss A. Milder, who for tho past five months has been secretary of the local Y.W.C.A. hostel, has been appointed to the staff of the Wellington hostel, and left to take up her new duties to-day. During a social evoning and dance tendered by the board of directors to tho hostel girls and their friends last night, Miss N. Stowart, one of the hostel residents, presented Alias Mintcr, on behalf of tho girls, with a farewell gift and wished the recipient all success in tho future. Miss Minter suitably replied thanking the donors. The room in which the function took place was gaily decorated, and a most pleasant evening was spent in dancing, musical items and games, and the directors were warmly thanked for their kindness. Included in those present, upart from several of the directorate, were a number of Y.M.C.A. members. Miss Alagce, of England, who replaces Miss Minter, took up her duties to-day. St. Patrick's Church choir held a successful euchre and dance last evening in order to raise funds for a supply of music. About 60 players participated in tho euchre tournament which was not concluded until a late hour. Miss M. Stevens proved tho winner of the ladies’ section, Mrs J. Stone being awarded tho consolation trophy. Mr C. Wyld was successful in tho men’s section, the consolation trophy going to Mr P. Haro. A large number of dancers took tho floor and music was supplied by Aliss H. Bowater, Messrs J. Cosgrove, B. Bowater and R. Inkpen. Messrs <7. Houston and M. Rosanoski were M’s.C.

WEDDING. STEVENSON—TOWLER. A pretty wedding was celebrated at the Methodist Church, Wellington, on July 2nd by the Rev. Eaton, the contracting parties being Gladys, third daughter of Mr and Airs G. Towlcr, of Palmerston North, and Mr Frank Stevenson, of Wellington. Tho bride, who the church on tho arm of her father, looked charming in a dress of white crepe-de-chene, trimmed with radium lace and pearls. Sho also wore the orthodox veil caught up with pearls and orange blossoms and carried a shower bouquet. The bride was attended by two nieces of tho bridegroom, Moira and Kathleen Foley, who wore white crepe-de-chene dresses and pale pink streamers. Each carried posies of pink daisies. Tho duties of best man wero carried out by Air Fred Towler. brother of the bride. A reception was held after the ceremony when forty guests assembled to drink the health of the happy couple. The presents were numerous and costly. In the evening the guests were entertained at the residence of Airs Foley, sister of the bridegroom.
