TRAGIC FIRE
MAN BURNT TO DEATH. HORSES ALSO DESTROYED. By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received July 24, 11.25 a.m. SYDNEY, July 24. A tragic firo at a stable at Camperdown, leased to Mr W. E. Budd, resulted in the loss of about a dozen horses and the death of Mr Jack Sullivan, aged 60, who was engaged, with many other willing helpers, in freeing the horses, numbering GO. Suliivan was trapped by the flames and burnt to death. When he realised that escape was cut off he climbed to the ventilator, which overlooks the street, but could only put his head through the opening in the reinforced iron wall. Despite the frantic efforts of. the onlookers to make the opening larger, the flames reached the unfortunate man before they managed it. The fire brigade arrived a few minutes too late. The horses, valued at £4O each, and harness, valued ut. several hundred pounds, were destroyed.—Press Association.
