Arrangements have been made for each of the local chemists to give away a limited Bupply of trial packages. A New Form of Treatment. Vicks is entirely different from the usual "internal” medicine. It comes In ointment form. It is the discovery of a chemist who for years sought a better way to treat colds. He finally combined in a new way time tested remedies, such as Menthol, Camphor, Eucalyptus, Thyme, etc., so that, when rubbed on the throat and chest for colds, the Ingredients are vapourised by the body heat. These vapours are inhaled with each breath and carry the medication directly to the air passages and lungs. At the same time Vicks is absorbed through and stimulates the skin, reducing the congestion and thus aiding the vapours inhaled to break up the inflammation. Splendid for Children. Vicks is particularly recommended to mothers with small children, as it is entirely "external" and can, therefore, be used with perfect safety on the youngest member of the family. Its use does away with the necessity of constant internal dosing which often disturbs the digestion and upsets the delicate stomachs of children. The Way to Use Vicks. For spasmodic croup, or children’s colds — r ub Vicks over the throat and chest until the difficult breaking is relieved, then spread on thickly and cover with a hot flannel. One application at bed time usually prevents a night attack of croup. For deep chest cold, sore throat, tonsilitis, bronchitis, coughs—Vicks should be applied over the throat ar#’ chest —if necessary, first using hot wet cloths to open the pores of the skin —then rub in well until the skin is red; spread on thickly and cover with one or two thicknesses of hot flannel. If the cough is annoying, a small piece the size of a pea can be swallowed every few hours. For head colds, asthma, catarrh, hay fever —Vicks should be melted in a spoon and the vapours inhaled, or a little can be applied up the nostrils and sniffed up the head. Time Tested Ingredients Some of Vicks ingredients have been tested by use for many generations. For instance, Menthol comes from the Oil of Peppermint which was produced in Egypt three thousand years ago, and is mentioned in the Icelandic medical books of the Thirteenth Century. It is actively antt-bacterial and is used for its antiseptic and anaesthetic influence in treating colds. The other ingredients are also es* pecially effective in treating inflammation and congestion. Camphor is a powerful stimulant to the respiratory centers, relieving congestion and inflammation. Eucalyptus is germicidal, antiseptic and stimulant —- largely used in chronic bronchitis anil infections of the upper respiratory tract —its vapours are very efficient. Special Healing Properties. Oil of Thyme is a powerful antiseptic with wonderful healing properties, especially in congestion and catarrhal conditions of the nose and throat. Oil of Turpentine vapours are an excellent remedy for, and highly beneficial in, various forms of bronchial and lung troubles —have powerful healing, antiseptic properties.
