OLD AGE PENSIONS.
MINISTER SUGGESTS CONTRIBUTORY SYSTEM. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 23. A rcqfuest that the Government should legislate to provide more liberally for old age pensions \yas made by a printing trade employees’ deputation to the lion. G. J. Anderson. Mr Chapman, tho secretary, pointed out that the London Typographical Union was able to pension old members at £2 per week. This was impossible here as tho unions were prevented from handling cash benefits. The powers of unions were infinitesimal compared with America and England. The Hon. G. J'. Anderson said he believed tho contributory system was. the only way to enable proper provision to bo made. He was afraid lie would be unable to get a Pensions Bill adequate to the big principles at issue through this year, but he hoped to remove some of the anomalies. ..... ..
