AUSTRALIA’S PREFERENCE. STRICTER DEFINITION. LONDON, July 9. “I entirely agree with Air Bruce’s and Mr Massey’s movement to increase the percentage of British labour und the materials required to qualify goods for the preference granted to British imports to Australia and New Zealand,” said All* Ben Alorgan in an interview.

“There has been a highly organised movement to export, goods to the Dominions and Colonies barely complying with the certificate of origin. “Though foreign assembling factories in Britain employ at present some British labour, which otherwise would not be employed, the tightening up of the preference regulations would result ultimately in the employment of larger numbers in Bril'sh producing factories. “Air Bruce and ATr Massey will have the support of British producers in their etlorts. Tho only people who will groan will be those who are more concerned to get commissions without employing British skilled labour.

Air Alorgan visited Australia, New Zealand and Canada as Trade Commissioner in 1903. It was at bis suggestion that the British Government appointed permanent Imperial Trade Commissioners, lie assisted in the construction and revision of the first British Transvaal and Commonwealth tariffs, and is a loading authority on trade and industrial development.
