Mr H. S. Cottrell, of Napier (states the Herald), has receivod word from an Eng; lish firm of. pottery makers, that a Maori carving design originated by him has been accepted for reproduction on cKinaware. “The theft of carpenters’ tools isquite a common thing in Wellington. We have recently received a complaint, from the secretary of the union about the amount of thieving going on,’’ said Chief-Detective Kemp in the Wellington Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. A debate of more than usual interest is to bo held to-night when the members of the Law Clerks’ Society meet representatives of the Palmerston North Debating Society in friendly rivalry. “That Trade Unions are against the best interests of the Community,” is the subject, and as both societies are to be well represented, a most interesting discussion is anticipated. A cordial invitation to attend is extended to all who aro interested.
