MEAT PRODUCERS’ BOARD.

Proposal to extend FRANCHISE. Tile system of election of members of the Aleat Producers’ Board was criticised at the annual Dominion Conference of the Farmers’ Union in Wellington last evening. Air R. D. Duxfield (Horotiu) said that elections to the board were at present carried out in a most hole-and-corner manner. No election had been held in Auckland, and the first they heard of the matter was that the two retiring members of the board had been re-elected.

Air H. A. Nevins (Makuri) said it was evident that Air Duxfield did not read the union’s official organ, which had given full particulars on the subject. Mr O. P. Lynch (Paraparaumu) said that Owners of cattle had had no vote.

Mr W. J. Poison said that the Act provided that owners of 25 beef cattle were entitled to a vote.

Mr D. R. Mills (Hawke’s Bay) stated that he had intended to nominate a member to the board, but had beep told that lie could not do so, as his name was not on the roll.

A delegate pointed out that this was the trouble; no roll had been prepared of owners of cattle.

An Auckland remit was carried, proposing to enlarge the franchise to include all owners of stock, with a suitable minimum.
