The vessel had to be slowed down to half-speed, which was maintained until 4 o’clock tjiis morning owing to the heavy sen. After passing the Kaikouras, where the sea was calmer, the vossol made better progress under full speed, which enabled her to reach Lyttelton and berth at 10.10 a.in. The passengers experienced a boisterous and uncomfortable trip.
