TRIBUTE FROM CHRISTIAN CONGREGATIONS. “It is with very deep regret that we have to record the resignation of our president, the Rev. hi. 0. BlnekInirne,” stated the annual report of the Palmerston North Council of Christian Congregations, presented at last night’s meeting, “ft is the desire of the executive and the council that we should express our heartfelt sympathy with our beloved president in Ins illness and also regret his early departure from our midst; further, that we place on record our sincere appreciation of the great work Mr Blackbume accomplished in this town and community, where his sterling Christian diameter, his whole-hearted sympathy as n true servant of God for those m distress, sorrow or trouble, endeared him to all classes. As a council representing the various Protestant churches we owe to him in a large extent the .splendid spirit of unity and goodwill which exists throughout the whole Christian communion in Palmerston North.”
iii moving the adoption of the veyiort, the chairman (iS! I • G. H. Bennett) stated that Mr ißlackburne find really been the originator of the council. That gentleman had been actuated by a desire to see one great spirit existing between the people of Palmerston .North, and had looked forward to the time when the Christian churches would be united. The counoil extended to him the best wishes for the complete restoration ol his health and strength. On the motion of the Hev. 0. T. Brown, it was decided to forward .to Mr Waokburne a letter embodying the sentiments expressed by the annual report and the chairman.
