JAPANESE PROTEST

AMERICA'S REPLY. FRIENDLY BUT FIRM. Received June 10, 11.45 a.m. WASHINGTON, June 9. The Government's reply to Japan's formal protest against exclusion will probably be handed to Mr Hamhara on Tuesday. It is understood that the Government will definitely and clearly state that there has been no violation of the existing treaty obligations. The reply will be dignified and friendly, but firm.—A. and N..Z. cable.
