SANDON. (From Our Own Correspondent,) A meeting of the Sandon Old Boys' Association was held on Saturday evening to make final arrangements lor the. annual reunion to be hold on Friday next. The gathering promises to bo very successful. United seniors met Sandon. at Sandon, on Saturday. The game was evenly contested and the final scores were: Sandon one penalty goal, one try to one penalty goal. United were firs', to open a scoring account. From a free kick J. Cameron was successful, in landing a goal. Morphy succeeded in equalising a little later nnd the Grst spell ended three all. The second spell opened with a serios of rushes from end to •end and from a loose scramble Tattle secured and throwing well out to "Snowy" Sanson, the latter scored after a nice run. No goal resulted. United made determined efforts to even up but with no result, leaving Sandon the victor.-. Mr J. F. KichardsOii was a ,-apa.ble referee.

SHANNON

There were no local football matches in Shannon on Saturday, all loams playing away from home. The senior*; journeyed to Manakau and were defeated by Ilui -Mai by six points to throe. Williams scoring the only try for Shannon. The juniors played Koputuroa at Kopularoa. and won by 12 pomU to ml. Hunt, Wilson, George ami Jatniesou scoring the tries. The thirds, on account ol there being no conveyance available, were able to Like, only eight men to Foxton and were defeated bv 12 poinU to nil.

Tho Post and Telegraph staff held a successful social evening and dance on Friday at the Parish Hall. There was a large gathering and a very pleasant lime was spent. Mrs Butler supplied excellent dance music and Mr Henry carried oat the. duties of M.C.

Two accidents happened at, our local school on Friday. Ford Steer, eldest son of Mr mid Mrs Steer, of Miranui mill, had the misfortune to fall from the German rings and broke a leg; ami a son of Mr Phillips, late headmaster of Tokomaru school, dislocated In* shoulder while play-' ing football. Medico attention was quickly obtained. Both the lads are progressing favourably.

The meeting called by his Worship the Mayor (Mr Murdoch) last Friday'evening to discuss the matter of Shannon having an interest, in the Foxton Brass Band, was not largely attended, probably on account of there being numerous other attractions that night. Mr Colder, bandmaster of the Foxton band, addressed the meeting. He said that their idea was to make their band a district one, which would be available for Shannon when required* Shannon could appoint a trustee to look after their interests. They were out. to raise money to put the baud on a sound footing ami he suggested that. Shannon should run n "Queen" to be known as the "Fibre Queen" to assist in i carnival which is being promoted in Foxton. In the event of Shannon taking part in this scheme, and later on deciding to form its own band, he \<as prepared lo assist even to the extent of coming over and teaching and conducting die hand until it wus able to piny its Krst programme. It was decided to call another meeting later to appoint a queen ami arrange all details should the public support, be sufficient.
