POWER BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The Manawatu-Oroua Power Board met this afternoon, there being present:—Mr J. A. Nash, M.P. (chairman), Sir James Wilson and Messrs J. Morrison, J. S. Tingey, H. H. Hunt, J. H. Vincent, M. A. Eliott, F. W Arbon, J. Linklatcr, M.P., P. J. Small, and S. R. Lancaster. ACQUIRING FEILDING PLANT. , A letter wa3 received from the Minister of Public Works, advising that the question of tho Minister giving his consent to the purchase of the Feilding scheme was being considered, and asking for a copy of the agreement between the board and" (ho Feilcling Borough Council. —The secretary reported that the document asked for had been forwarded to the Minister as far as 'it could be completed until ho gave his consent. Mr Eliott, stating that there could' be no objection to securing from tho meeting at this stage an expression of opinion as to. tho manner in which they proposed to acquire the Feilding plant, moved: "That this board consider it advisable to take over the Feilding borough debentures instead of purchasing the electrical scheme out of the board's own loan moneys." The motion was carried and it was decided to await the Minister's decision before attempting to put it into effect. GENERAL. During consideration of the engineer's report, which was adopted, the chairman said that there was an urgent need to secure such poles as were sought from Pokako. and if ihey could not get them from there for some time they should procure some in the interim from Australia. They would get power from Mangahao in August or September and must be prepared to supply it throughout the board's district as soon as it was available. Air Eliott said that it would cost £1 5s per pole more to get, then, from Australia than from Pokako. In reply to Mr Small, the chairman said that these were subsidiary poles to curry lines to the properties of farmers. Mr Small: r lhe farmers like to see straight poles in front of their residences. Mr Eliott moved, and it wns curried, that, in order to ensure a supply of the poles in question pending the arrival of those from Pokako. the board procure 500 26 feet and 250 22 feet poles from Australia
