LAW CLERKS' DEBATE.

"That public boxing exhibitions be abolished" wiis the subject debated by members of the Law Clerks' Debating Society last evening at the usual fortnightly meeting. Mr A. J. McLeavey presided over a very good attehdance of members having regard to the inclement weather prevailing. For the affirmative side of the debate were Messrs Goldfinch and McKay, and for tho negative Messrs Hollier and Robertson. At the conclusion of the addresses, the subject was thrown open for discussion, following which a vote was taken, the decision going to the affirmative. A feature of the evening was the helpful criticism given by members. Each speaker had another member chosen to criticise his speech, and thus speakers were able to learn of their mistakes. Prepared speeches of fifteen minutes' duration were delivered by Messrs G. Petersen, A. Davis and M. Niccal, following which the meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the chair.
