MANAWATU HUNT.

OUTING AT KAIRANGA,

The Manawatu Hunt met at Mr D. B. McEwon's homestead. Kairanga, on Saturday afternoon, when, with the fine weather prevailing, some thoroughly enjoyable sport was had. The paddocks were in good condition and three fine runs were obtained. There were a couple of spills, but neither rider was hurt. The hunt was watched by a large gathering of spectators, who enjoyed it as much as tho followers. Tho drug was laid by Messrs M E. Wood, on Birkenose, and L. Little on' Temuka, and these two hunters gave a splendid exhibition of jumping. The latter horse, when landing at the double, came down on his knees, slid along the ground some yards, recovered his feet and took the second jump of the double in great style. It was a splendid recovery by the horse, and a 'line 'exhibition of horsemanship by his rider, who never moved in the saddle. Amongst those who were riding to hounds were the following:—Mr L. 11. Collinson (master), Punjaub; Mr J. Sexton (huntsman), Chautauqua ; Master Rod Sexton (lion, whip). Prudence; Miss Meads, Snownakc; Mirs Thornley. a bay; Mrs Sutton, Renose; Messrs M. E. Wood, Birkenose; L. Little Temuka; D. B. McEwen. Black Watch; W. B. Buick. Cock-a-Doodlo: A. Bnick, Koon Kan ; R. Mawhincy, Aradium ; W. W. Andrews. Roany; N. 11. Oliver, Gay Willie; W. Scott, Colter's Prince; D. Scott. Cossack ; A. E. Marnier, Banjo. At the conclusion of tho hunt, those who had participated enjoyed .the kind hospitality of Mr and Mrs 1). B. •McEwen, to whom tho president, Mr S. R. Lancaster moved a hearty vote of thanks. He referred to the fine sporting spirit of their host and hostess, and the vote was carried by cheers. The property owners were also accorded a vole of lhanks.

At a meeting of tho ball committee in the evening, presided over by Ml'' S. R. Lancaster, it was decide:! to hold the function on July 18 and preliminary arrangements were made.
