IMPROVED FACILITIES.

PALMERSTON NO&TM BENEFITS.

(Per Prese Association.) WELLINGTON, Match 19 The Postmaster-General (the Hon. J. G. Coates) has announced that tho erection of additional telephone between W ellimrton and Palnlerston North, also between Palmerston North and ' Napier, has now made practicable a complete re-ar-rangemtnt of the telephone lines serving these places, with the result that outlets for telephone traffic to and from the W ellington, Manawatu and Hawke 8 Bay districts have been considerably increased and improved as is shown below. The Wellington-Napier lirle is now availalbo for continuous telephone communication between Wellington and Napiei. This also brings Wellington into telephone communication with- Wairoa and I aupo and other exchanges in northern and southern Hawke’s Bay. Hitherto, toll Communications between Wellington and Napier have been restricted to the hours between 6 p.m. and 8 ajn. Between Wellington and Palmerston North two additional outlets have been provided, thus increasing the trunk line accommodation between these stations from three to five outlets. , , With regard to Palmerston jNortii and Napier, although the number of outlets between these places has not been increaaed a quicker service is now ensured. Wellington-Otaki: The providing of an additional line between these places hag increased tho accommodation for toll communication by 100 per cent. . Welliugton-Levin : Tho efficiency of this line has been improved by the use of a larger guage wire. Otaki-Levin: Tho providing of lines between Otaki and Levin, in addition to the presnt outlet via Manakau, enables W aikanae, Faekakariki, Pa-raparaumu and Otaki to obtain communication with stations north of Levin, through Levin. Hitherto it has been necessary for all suc-h communications to be made via W eliington. The accommodation between Otaki and Waikanae has also been increased Between Levin and Palmerston North, tho providing of two direct lines in addition to the existing one, on -which Shannon is an intermediate station, has considerably increased the accommodation between these places and will facilitate the dispatch of traffic between Manakau, Foxton. Tokomaru, Shannon and Levin. These rearrangements, in addition to providing ~ quicker telephone toll service between the main exchanges, will also enable a greater volume of traffic to be dealt with by the intermediate stations.
