MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
ACCOUNTS IN DISPUTE. Mr J. li. Stout, S.M., presided oyer the Magistrate’s Court this morning when tho hearing, commenced yesterday was concluded of a civil action in which Child Brothers, of Palmerston North, wood and coal merchants and carriers, proceeded against the Hosking Engineering Co., claiming £3 15s, alleged to be due to plaintiffs by defendant company for a cord of firewood. Defendant company counterclaimed for £29 Is 7d, in respect to the hire to plaintiffs of a four-ton lilting block and for certain mechanical repair work allegedly done lor thud Brothers. Mr Meatyard appeared yesterday for plaintiffs and Mr Ongley tor defendant company. After hearing evidence yesterday afternoon, His W T orship had adjoin lied tho court until 10.30 a.m. to-day. On resumption this morning Mr Tremaine appeared in place of Mr Ongley. After hearing further evidence, His Worship gave judgment for the amount claimed and struck out the counterclaim, stating in connection with the latter that plaintiffs had already paid to defendant company in Jure an amount equal to about half the value of the lifting block. Tho othei accounts in dispute had been proved to bo offset as between the parties.
