SYDNEY, dot, 25. It is reported that six additional Commonwealth steaJnefs have been sold through London agents, but 'the 'particulars have not been announced. ' | The Australian Industrial Christian [ Fellowship, constituted ori lines similar to the industrial fellowship already established in England, was inaugurated yesterday with Mr. Willis, president pf the Australian Labour Party executive, as first president of the now movement. The objective of the now body is stated to faa th< application of the precepts and practice of Jesus to politics, industry and Social life, with the same ethics for the home, the workshop, the party, the congregation and the community of nations. The purpose is stated to be to unite all Christians, believing that justice and love should be the controlling motives for all social change. It is proposed to organise Christian socialists, labour supporters, and church, people in mutual fellowship. The officers elected comprised representatives of the Assembly and all religious denominations. A fire broke out hear midnight at John Banks, hardware merchants, In Pitt street, a couple of streets from the Central railway station. The damage is estimated at over £60,000. Two firemen were injured, one named J. Houston filling through a covered skylight on the fourth floor to 1 the bottom floor. The flames by 1 o’clock had eaten their way from the top floor through the building, the fire fighters being compelled to direct all their energies to preventing the neighbouring buildings in the congested block from catching fire.—Press Association. ■ * HOBART. Oct. 25. Mr. Lyons, the leader of the Labour Party, has been commissioned to form a ministry. It is anticipated that ho will .secure three months’ adjournment during which to frame a policy. Mr. Blyth, leader of the Country Party, has- been deposed for voting with Labour against the Government.—Press Association, MELBOURNE, Oct.-25-. Frederick Joseph Smith, aged 15, a ward of the State, was found < guilty of manslaughter at Bendigo. Smith worked for several firms and was accused of thefts. When Constable Delaney rode into the yard towards him, Smith levelled a gun and in the scuffle Constable Delaney was shot. Smith was remanded for sentence.—Press Association. -BRISBANE. Oct. 25. The Queensland Government has decided to grant one third of the £IOOO towards a permanent State orchestra if the other twothirds are raised. The City Council is considering contributing one-third if the public subscribe the remaining third.— Press Association.
